Link economic woes of the Indian people, the recession, loss
of jobs, slowdown etc., with nationalism.
The term ‘economic nationalism’ is a coinage of the
Nehruvian era by political scientists/sociologists like AR Desai and Bipin
Till economic nationalism was alive, RSS’ cultural
nationalism had no place. The narrative of both Government and the opposition
was driven by economic issues.
But, today, the Modi Government has de-linked nationalism
from economic issues.
So, while the right-wing keeps harping on nationalism and
war hysteria, liberal-left is trying to shift the focus back, exclusively,
without a nationalist appeal, to the economic crisis.
This will not work. The liberal-left has reduced economic
nationalism to economism.
Given a choice between economism and nationalism, Indian
people will choose nationalism or whichever version of nationalism, that
If war is sold as nationalism, Indian people will choose war
with Pakistan over closure of factories etc.
But if closure of factories, loss of jobs, privatization of
national assets under Modi is presented as something meant to weaken India by
Modi, and Modi painted as an agent of US Imperialism, which wants military
bases in J&K and a weak, pliant India as part of impending, US war against
China, things would be different.
Indian people would then realise that in the garb of
‘integrating Kashmir’, Modi actually wants to hand over the ‘Jannat’ to the US,
and the US wants India and Pakistan to engage in a fake war, which looks ‘real’

Neither India nor Pakistan nor the Kashmiris, will get

TO ENCIRCLE CHINA.
So, AS INDIA-PAKISTAN FIGHT OVER KASHMIR, US WILL GET
Left-liberals should also present an alternative model of
economic nationalism, which goes beyond Man Mohan Singh’s neo-liberal
framework. Say no to privatization and overemphasis on FDI. Talk about
liberalising the agricultural sector by encouraging farmers to fix prices of
their produce, establishing cooperatives, wholesale and retail stores run by
farmers that can link the peasant directly, to the market.
Indian army is of peasant origin. If nationalism is
redefined as upliftment of the farmer by giving him trading and price-fixing
powers, and Modi-US axis put forward as a force denying these powers to the
farmer, the Indian army will hesitate before falling into Modi-US trap.
Indian Jawans are feeling the economic prick. But they have
been bulldozed by fake Modi nationalism.
Tell the Jawans that when we talk on 370 or Modi’s wrong
policies on Kashmir, we are talking about how Modi’s policies ruined the Indian
middle class and the rural sector as well. Modi is wrong on Kashmir because he
is wrong elsewhere, in giving rural India a raw deal.
Now Modi is compromising national security and national
