Irfan Qadir saheb ( [email protected] ) is a Pakistani who became my friend through the internet. He was Attorney General of Pakistan, which is the highest post a lawyer can hold in a country . We often corresponded by email.
Once when I was Chairman of the Press Council of India ( after retiring as a Supreme Court judge ) I got an email from him informing me that he was in Delhi, to attend a function of the Bar Council of India. I told him to have lunch with me at my residence after the function was over.
I then organised a small mehfil ( gathering ) of Delhi Urdu poets at my residence, and also invited Prof Akhtarul Wasey, then Professor or Urdu in Jamia Milia University, Delhi, who had recently been awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India.
When Irfan Qadir saheb arrived at my residence, I introduced him to everyone there, and told the Urdu poets that Irfan saheb should not go back to Pakistan with the impression that the Delhi Urdu poets are third rate. The poets then recited their kalaam.
After this mini mushaira, we had Kashmiri lunch, which included Kashmiri mutton dishes like roganjosh, yaqni, kabargah, etc.
Irfan saheb was so happy in this event that he told me that he felt he was in Lahore ( his home town ), instead of being in India.
I have referred to him in this recent video interview
