Kanhaiya, Shehla, Umar Khalid will get angry with Katju’s comment
17th November 2019. Justice Markandey Katju, a retired judge of the
Supreme Court, described Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal as another phoney
demagogue like JNU heroes Kanhaiya Kumar, Shehla Rashid and Omar Khalid.
Katju wrote in a post on his BF page (Justice Katju Facebook page)-
“Namgyal’s speech in Parliament
Tsering Namgyal, the MP from Ladakh, gave a passionate speech in the Lok Saba
supporting abolition of Article 370 and grant of UT status to Ladakh.
was was widely acclaimed by the media and our fatuous public, but to me it
reminded of the line in Shakespeare’s Macbeth “ It is a tale, told by an idiot,
full of sound and fury, signifying nothing “. To my mind Namgyal is just
another phoney demagogue, like those ‘heroes’ of JNU, Kanhaiya Kumar, Shehla
Rashid and Umar Khalid.
The truth is
that abolition of Article 370 was just a gimmick and stunt, like Yoga Day, Ram
Mandir, Cow Protection, Swatchata Abhiyaan etc, resorted to by a beleaguered
rabidly anti- minority government, to divert attention from the terrible
economic crisis India is facing, which it has no inkling how to resolve.
The test of every political act or system is one, and only one : does it raise the standard of living of the people ? Does it give them better lives ?
perspective, and that is the only correct perspective, it is obvious that
abrogation of Articles 35A and 370 was only a gimmick. It will not improve the
lives of the people of the former state of J&K. It has already made the
lives of Kashmiris miserable, and Ladakhis will be stupid if they seriously
believe grant of UT status will improve their lives.”
Renowned for his historic decisions, Justice Markandey Katju retired from the Supreme Court in 2011, after which he was the Chairman of the Press Council of India. Nowadays he is spending time in California on his stay in America and is very active on social media and is expressing his views on India’s problems openly.
