New Delhi, August 24, 2019 : Prof.Bhim Singh, Chief
Patron of National Panthers Party who has faced over 50 times detentions and
jails since 1959 when he was a student in J&K expressed deep shock and
anger on the dictatorial and condemnable treatment by Jammu and Kashmir police
and bureaucrats to the opposition leaders who landed at Srinagar Airport in a
plane with some senior media persons. The senior political leaders and
parliamentarians representing recognized political parties like Congress,
CPI-M, CPI, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Trinmool Congress and DMK who landed at
Srinagar Airport were treated like gunny bags and locked in a room at the
airport only to be packed in a plane and send back to Delhi.
This has proved the kind of democracy and rule of law is
governing J&K under the President’s Rule. The only video picture that could
be seen and media reaction could be heard was from Aaj Tak at 4.15 p.m.
Singh said that he and his party activists including former MLAs and Ministers
have been experiencing all this kind of maltreatment, humiliations and
detentions in police stations for the past over 50 years in J&K where civil
liberties have been blown into dust by the ruling leadership.
The NPP Supremo said that he had resigned from the Congress
and its MLA ship in 1982 when he founded the Panthers Party to unite the people
and particularly those days the youth in J&K for ensuring democracy and
rule of law.
Prof.Bhim Singh said that he himself has spent more than
eight years in prisons and all his colleagues in Panthers Party today have
experienced jail tortures and police assault. He said that what the J&K
bureaucracy and its controlled police has done with the 11 visiting political
leaders this afternoon stands a witness about the kind of rule of law and democracy
which is ruling the state of J&K. This was most shocking that on one hand,
the Union Govt. and its leadership are mourning sad demise of former Finance
Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley and the whole nation irrespective political parties
is under a shock whereas the government of India in collaboration of with
police and bureaucracy of J&K is treating the national leaders and
parliamentarians as guinea pigs at Srinagar Airport, a public place.
He said that it was
only Aaj Tak which has dared showing draconian shots how the national leaders
and parliamentarians were being treated at the Srinagar Airport. Even the
senior media persons accompanying the national leaders were not spared.
Prof.Bhim Singh appealed to all political parties, social organisations and intellectuals to condemn this kind of open assault on the national leaders, parliamentarians and the media persons at Srinagar Airport in the afternoon on August 24, 2019. He also appealed to all national and regional parties all over the country to condemn this kind of draconian treatment meted out to parliamentarians, media persons this morning who were visiting Kashmir from Delhi in a flight.
