S&T Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launches new initiative for clean energy solutions

PPP model initiative for clean energy

New Delhi, April 08: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; Minister of State PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh has launched a futuristic PPP(Public Private Participation)model initiative for clean energy with the full launch of “Mission Integrated Bio-refineries”.

India is committed to a low-carbon future

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh reiterated India’s commitment to a low-carbon future through “Mission Innovation”, centred on technology advancement, cooperation, and zero waste bio-refineries for cost-effective production of sustainable bio-fuels with co-production of bio-based chemicals and materials, using biotechnological interventions.

Dr Singh noted that Mission Integrated Bio-refineries brings about a dynamic and results-oriented partnership of countries, international organizations, corporates, academic institutions, and civil society to accelerate innovation for renewable fuels, chemicals, and materials for a low-carbon future.

The full launch of “Mission Integrated Bio-refineries” follows a soft launch in November last year at the COP26 side event of the Mission Innovation annual gathering.

He assured that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is committed to transforming the country’s energy landscape with a significant clean energy share.

The Union Minister announced a national funding opportunity for sustainable aviation fuels to support and conduct RD&D (Research, Development & Demonstration) to foster biotechnological innovations for low carbon pathways for cleaner biofuels for aviation applications and another for hydrogen valley platforms, another global initiative to optimise the hydrogen demand and supply by onsite generation and utilization.

Besides, he launched three integrated clean energy Material Acceleration Platforms (MAP) set up by DST: one for storage, the second for materials, and the third for bioenergy and hydrogen at a total cost of US dollars 6 million. He said these platforms would leverage emerging capabilities in next-generation computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, and robotics to accelerate the pace of materials discovery up to 10 times faster.
