Imran Khan

Imran-Khan

The Pied Piper of Pakistan

does Imran Khan have any solution to Pakistan’s massive problems of widespread poverty, unemployment, malnutrition, price rise, etc? He has only glib rhetoric.

Imran Khan’s bluster

By Justice Markandey Katju I had got a good impression of Prime Minister Imran Khan after the Pulwama attack in Kashmir, when he said that historical experience shows that wars have unpredictable outcomes, and a war will be no solution to the problems between India and Pakistan. He also said that Pakistan is willing to cooperate with India in any investigation about the incident, and that Pakistan too has suffered a lot due to terrorism. But subsequently my opinion of him has gone down, and his latest rant connecting rape with women’s dress is downright silly, to say the least. PM Imran Under Fire For Linking Rape To How Women Dress — Again To my mind the main ( though not only ) cause of rape is unemployment. Let me explain. Sex is a natural urge, and when a young man has reached a certain age, it usually becomes strong ( it is sometimes said that after food the next requirement is sex ). In conservative societies like in India and Pakistan, sex is ordinarily available only after marriage. Now no girl would marry an unemployed man. And when unemployment is widespread in society ( as it is in India and Pakistan ), it follows that a large number of young men are being deprived of sex. Since the sex instinct is strong in them, and they cannot get married ( due to unemployment ), they will often resort to rape, and this is the main reason for the large number of rapes in our countries. I make it clear that I am not justifying rape. It is a heinous crime, and must be severely punished. But it is bound to happen, for the reason abovementioned, however harsh we may make the law against it. I also do not say that employed men do not commit rape. I am only saying that the main cause of rape is unemployment, which is on record levels in our countries. So if we wish to really reduce rapes substantially we must create a society free of the scourge of unemployment. How many women…

Imran Khan reminds Justice Katju of the American con artist Soapy Smith

Soapy Khan By Justice Markandey Katju The Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan reminds me of the American con artist Soapy Smith. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soapy_Smith Like Soapy, Imram Khan is as smooth, slick, and soapy as they come. After a successful cricket career, Khan entered politics, making honesty and accountability his election plank.. But in his election campaign of 2018 Imran Khan hobnobbed with Tehreeke Labaik and other extremist religious groups in Pakistan to get votes, and gave PTI tickets to dubious ‘electables’, including many shady businessmen, and the infamous Amir Liaquat, whose TV show resulted in the killing of many innocent Ahmadis. He kept repeating his belief in khatme nabuwat ( finality of Prophethood ) throughout his election campaign, to appease the religious bigots, and after his victory expelled Atif Mian, an internationally renowned Princeton based economist from the Pakistan Economic Advisory Council only because he was an Ahmadi. Attacks on the tiny Ahmadi community continued throughout his tenure as Prime Minister. The Barbaric Persecution of Ahmadis in Pakistan Imran Khan abandoned all his professed principles soon after coming to power, and became a pucca ( hardened ) politician,  like a Faust doing a deal with Mephistopheles. All his pretences of being liberal and modern ( having lived for long years in England ) have proved to be a façade, Despite all his talk of democracy, he has suppressed media freedom in Pakistan. Khan had promised a Naya Pakistan ( New Pakistan ) and a ‘Madina ki Riyasat’  ( a state like that in Madina at the time of the Prophet Muhammad ) if elected to power, but it has become a nightmare. He had promised 10 million jobs, and bringing down prices but under his rule the Pakistani economy has gone downhill, with record unemployment, and skyrocketing prices of foodstuffs, fuel, electricity, etc. https://indianexpress.com/article/pakistan/one-year-on-heres-how-imran-khan-and-his-promise-of-naya-pakistan-fared-5931411/ https://www.timesnownews.com/international/article/price-of-wheat-touches-rs-60-per-kg-in-pakistan-as-soaring-food-prices-crush-citizens/664211 https://www.businesstoday.in/current/economy-politics/tomato-prices-sky-rocket-in-pakistan-imran-khan-govt-blames-india/story/418431.html https://www.sentinelassam.com/business/unabated-price-rise-hurts-the-common-pakistani-but-government-looks-the-other-way-514095 Imran Khan’s pledge to build 5 million homes in 5 years has proved to be nothing but a mere election slogan ( a ‘jumla’, as Amit Shah would say ). https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/10/interview-student-architects-to-help-build-5-mln-cheap-homes-in-pakistan/ Of late, Imran Khan entered into an agreement with that group of bigoted…

Justice Katju asks 6 questions to Imran Khan

Some questions to Imran Khan By Justice Markandey Katju Dear Prime Minister Khan Everyone, including me, heard your speech in the Pakistan National Assembly after getting the vote of confidence ( which had been boycotted by the opposition parties ). The thrust of your speech was about the corruption done by the leaders of the opposition parties. Now I am posing these 6 questions to you : 1. Why did you not mention about the massive corruption by the Pakistan armed forces, details of which are in this article I wrote in theweek.in : https://www.theweek.in/news/india/2019/08/26/opinion-the-truth-about-the-pakistan-military.html Is corruption by the armed forces of Pakistan, not corruption? Or is corruption only that done by civilians? Since you profess to be a crusader against corruption, surely you should also stop corruption by the armed forces. Or are you scared to speak of this because then you may meet the fate of the late lamented Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto? 2. What about corruption by your own party MPs, those dubious ‘electables’ ( sugar barons and other shady businessmen ) to whom you gave PTI tickets in the parliamentary elections ? Have they become ‘doodh ka dhula‘ overnight ? 3. Prices of essential commodities like foodstuffs and fuel have skyrocketed. What have you done to end this nightmare for the common man? Or will you keep blaming the previous governments? 4. You spoke of the glory of Islam, Allah, the Prophet and Madina ki Riyasat in the beginning of your speech, but how will this solve the massive problem of unemployment and lack of proper healthcare and good education for the masses in Pakistan? By shouting ‘ La ilaha il Allah ’ from the rooftops? 5. There was the only fulmination by you about the corruption of the opposition parties, but why did you not also announce in your speech that you will abolish the inhuman laws against the Ahmadis, and the blasphemy law which is used to persecute minorities? ( see my article ‘Barbaric persecution of Ahmadis in Pakistan’ published in rabwah.net ). Why did you give a PTI ticket to that rascal Amir Liaquat,…
