Priyanka Gandhi begins roadshow in Lucknow with Rahul, Scindia

IT IS TRUE JYOTIRADITYA SCINDIA HAS BEEN SIDELINED BY THE BJP LEADERS

BUT CONGRESS IS EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LEAVING OF ROYAL SCION BHOPAL, MARCH 15, 2021 (By L S Herdenia): There is no reason to disagree with Rahul Gandhi’s statement that BJP has reduced Jyotiraditya Scindia to the position of a backbencher. Since he joined the BJP he only got the gift of a Rajya Sabha membership and ministerial berths to his followers. Besides this, he has not got any position in the organisation or in the government. There are elections in some states for which responsibility is being assigned to many BJP leaders of Madhya Pradesh. But in this also neither Scindia nor any of his followers have been given any task. The political parties have to submit a list of speakers to the election commission who will be allowed to address public meetings.   But in this respect, Scindia’s name does not figure in the list so far released. But this was not the position when he was in Congress. He was appointed General Secretary of the Congress in-charge of half of Uttar Pradesh. He also held an important position in the Congress Parliamentary Party. In the last elections, he always got top official assignments. In the 2018 assembly elections, he was the main target of the BJP. In fact, BJP ran a campaign against Scindia with the title “Mafkaro Maharaj”. At that time BJP thought that Scindia may be the first choice of the Congress Chief Ministership. That’s why BJP chose him to be the main target of its attack. Perhaps in these circumstances in mind, Rahul Gandhi mentioned Scindia: “If Scindia had shown patience he could have in future become the chief minister. The big leaders leaving the Congress were sitting on the backbenches in the BJP. And they can never become the chief minister in the rival party”. Rahul said. Rahul Gandhi said this while addressing the national executive meeting of the Youth Congress. According to a participant, the Congress leader urged workers to focus on their organisational activities while asking them to ignore “who comes to the party and who leaves it”. This is the second…

Demonising Rahul Gandhi for every failure of Congress is dangerous

Barack Obama’s new memoirs selective reporting have given another handle to the opponents of Rahul Gandhi to mock at him. Most of the time, once an election is passed and if Congress performs better, media does not speak about Rahul Gandhi but if the party fails, they start not only mocking at him and want him to be replaced or asking the party to rebel against him. But this time, two things have come at one time. The Obama memoirs and the dismal performance of the Congress Party in Bihar and the usual chorus for his replacement have started. Most of the time, these things don’t come from Congress Party but BJP’s IT cell which has been making a mockery of not only Rahul Gandhi but his great grandfather Jawahar Lal Nehru. Let us discuss some of these points honestly. There is no doubt that Rahul Gandhi comes from a political family or may we call it, the first family of independent India. His family had tremendous privileges but then many other enjoyed those privileges politically and the result was that after the landslide victory of Rajiv Gandhi in 1985, the Congress actually went into a slumber and lost its appeal and mass base. Rahul’s entry in the Congress party happened at the moment when Congress was finished in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and the numero uno position of the party in India’s political spectrum, as the party of governance had gone and the BJP was replacing it with the new ruling party mostly backed up powerfully by the Savarnas. The Two UPAs did some good work but in terms of communication with the masses, they remain horrible. The official’s files, the media management, the communication with people and the party cadres were missing. The fact of the matter is Congress Party’s cadres and even the politicians don’t have a clear ideological commitment and most of them switched their loyalty to BJP. They were unable to differentiate between secularism and Hindutva. Under this fragility, Congress lost the Savarna leaders and voters who it nurtured during the period but it wanted…

Congress’s old darbaris uncomfortable with Rahul Gandhi’s Return

The letter writers in the Congress party are nothing but all those who benefited by the Darbari politics of the party. They are comfortable in the current situation and don’t want any radical ideological shift of the party. Most of them would be happy with their Rajya Sabha seats or party leaders without taking Modi and RSS head-on. This is what I called the Brahmanical lobby in the Congress which never wanted any change in the party at the first place. It resisted all the change-making process which Rahul Gandhi wanted and it is these who actually sabotaged Rahul’s efforts, leaked internal matters of the party in the media and made him look like Pappu. Those who enjoyed every power in UPA, sold India to private cronies, never bothered to speak about the atrocities on Dalits and minorities, today are ‘worried’ about the affairs of the party. I agree that Congress Party needs to make a decision but things are not simple. When Rahul Gandhi was made President of the party prior to general elections or even in 2014 when he was vice president, the coterie actually wanted him there but remain dominant and decisive factor within the party. Now, BJP and RSS have not attacked anyone else than Gandhi. They mocked at Sonia and lampooned Rahul Gandhi. Congress leaders allowed this to happen as most of them felt Rahul Gandhi is just novice and don’t know anything. They were holding on as they felt that Gandhi family is not merely the glue which unite Congress but also a vote catcher but as Rahul Gandhi speak bigger issues of land acquisition, Dalit participation, minority rights, China question, this group has suddenly become restive. One is surprised at their ‘concernn’. Drawing room manipulators claiming to be leaders always mocked at Rahul Gandhi for knowing nothing and kind of ‘bewakoof’ but as in the last few months, Rahul Gandhi’s interventions and articulations compelled even his opponents to think that he is not just a brainless person as being made out but has a mind of own and very refined one. After all,…

Rahul Gandhi in conversation with Dr. Raghuram Rajan

A welcome initiative from Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi’s conversation with Raghuram Rajan is interesting as well as informative. The initiative too is good at the time when our leaders rarely believe in conversations and mostly like to be ‘interviewed’, good to see a political figure speaking to an economist who also happen to be the former Governor of RBI. This conversation gave us lots of ideas and how government can handle the massive impending economic crisis once the lock down is unlocked. Millions of unorganised sector workers have returned home without any social security. The charities of governments as well as organisation will not be able to feed them for ever and at certain point of time, they will have to find a job for their survival. Charities are important during emergencies but you can’t keep a country in emergency for too long when economy is already in shambles and need strong measures for revival. An important point made by Dr Raghuram Rajan was that we need Rs 65,000 crore to help the poor immediately to protect them from further marginalisation. Rahul Gandhi has been speaking about these issues for long and I think the issue of minimum income for all during the last election was part of his conversations with other economists. It also gives us an idea about the enormity of the issue and where the government is failing so far for its inability to respond to the people’s need. Question is not about money as India can definitely afford much bigger amount to push economy going but whether there is a will for doing so or not. Both Rahul Gandhi and Raghuram Rajan wanted that the government do more and more testing to ensure that things are in control as far as Covid 19 are concern but it is important for the government to strengthen India’s federal structure. Before becoming the prime minister, Narendra Modi has been speaking about the more power to the states and that centre must allow state to flourish but now he seems to be enjoying the concentration of power at his hands. Sadly, the forces who should have…

New Delhi, 05th January 2020 : Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked the Central government over the violence that erupted in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on Sunday. “The brutal attack on JNU students & teachers by masked thugs, that has left many seriously injured, is shocking. Opposition decides to have pre-poll alliance, common minimum programme for Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi, Feb 14. In a significant development, major national parties on Thursday decided to have a pre-poll pact and a common minimum programme (CMP) to defeat the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha polls even as Congress appeared to keep its options open about tying up with Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and the AAP in Delhi. Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been entrusted the task of preparing the CMP. The decisions were announced after a meeting of the opposition parties at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar following their “remove dictatorship, save democracy” joint protest in the national capital. Apart from Gandhi, the meeting was attended by Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Telugu Desam Party leader and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah. At a joint interaction later, Banerjee said they will go for pre-poll alliance so that there is no problem later. “We will do a pre-poll alliance so that there is no problem after the election. And our appeal to people is to save country and bring government of people,” she said. Banerjee said the meeting was “very good” and “fruitful” and there will be regular meetings as elections were coming and there was need of coordination. She said about 25 days were left for notification by the Election Commission and they will also prepare a CMP. “There is a need to save the country from disaster on the hands of the BJP, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. And for that we will also do a pre-poll alliance. We will again sit on February 26,27 or 28 when we have time. We all have agreed on common minimum programme and Rahulji will prepare a draft and sent to us and then we shall clear it.” Gandhi also said that the meeting was very “constructive”. “We have agreed that the principal target for all of us is to fight the assualt on the Indian institutions carried out by Narendra Modi, by the…
