 The Jharkhand Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill introduced by the government against mob lynching. However, the state’s main opposition party BJP boycotted the House calling it a bill brought in haste and to please a particular section. The House cleared the bill amid a walkout by BJP MLAs.

The Bill states that violence committed by two or more persons shall be treated as mob lynching and shall be punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to Rs 25 lakh. The Bill will take the form of law after the Governor’s signature.
