One Mohammad Liyaqat Chauhan made a comment on my FB post.

I responded by asking him if he wants to hear a story about a Chauhan, and he said yes. So here it is.

One of my relatives was a senior officer in the Indian Foreign Service (he retired a few years back). It was he who told me this story.

As an IFS officer, he often had to go to Pakistan on official duty. There he became friendly with a Muslim gentleman whose surname was Chauhan (probably some Hindu ancestor of his had converted to Islam).

Mr Chauhan’s son fell in love with a girl, who was also a Muslim, and they wanted to get married. However, for some reason, the girl’s parents were opposed to their marriage. The son asked his father what he should do.

Mr Chauhan replied, “We are Chauhans. We don’t take the permission of the girl‘s parents. We just carry her away. You do the same.“

P.S.

Evidently, Mr Chauhan was referring to the story of Prithviraj Chauhan and Sanyogita. They were in love with each other, but Sanyogita’s father, Jaichand, was Prithviraj’s enemy and was opposed to their marriage. So one day Prithviraj went in disguise to Jaichand’s palace and carried Sanyogita away.
