Piyush Goyal will visit Canada

Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & Textiles, along with Mary Ng, Minister for International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, Government of Canada, at the 6th India-India Summit on Trade and Investment (MDTI) in Ottawa today. Canada will co-chair the Ministerial Dialogue. The MDTI is a bilateral mechanism for discussing a wide range of trade and investment-related issues and areas of cooperation and provides institutional support in this context. The dialogue will focus on various topics including strengthening of bilateral trade ties between India and Canada, investment promotion and cooperation and green transformation as well as discussion on critical minerals and new areas of cooperation such as promoting B2B engagement.

Indian Air Force’s MiG-21 aircraft crashed

A MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed at around 9:45 today. The aircraft had taken off from Suratgarh Air Force Base for a routine training operation. Shortly thereafter the pilot experienced an emergency, following which he attempted to recover the aircraft as per available procedures, failing which he initiated the evacuation procedure. The pilot received minor injuries in the process. The pilot was recovered about 25 km northeast of the Suratgarh base. The wreckage of the aircraft fell on a house in Bahalol Nagar of Hanumangarh district, which unfortunately resulted in the death of three people.

Indian Railways records monthly freight loading of 126.46 MT for April 2023

Indian Railways registered a monthly freight loading of 126.46 MT in April 2023. The incremental loading in the month of April was 4.25 MT as compared to April 2022, registering a growth of 3.5 per cent. Freight revenue increased by 7 per cent to Rs 13,893 crore in April, compared to Rs 13,011 crore in 2022.
