Parliament has passed the Cinematograph Amendment Bill-2023. Lok Sabha approved it yesterday amid the uproar. It has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha. The bill has a provision for amendment in the Cinematograph Act-1952, under which the certificate issued by the Central Board of Film Certification was valid for ten years. Now this certificate will be considered good forever. The Bill also has a provision to add some additional categories of certificates on the basis of age. Films with “A” or “S” certificates will require a separate certificate for showing on TV or any other media the Central Government prescribes. The bill will ban unauthorized recording and exhibition of films.
