Violence mars UP panchayat polls, clashes break out in 17 districts.
Amid widespread violence that broke out on voting day for the block panchayat chief polls being held across Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, 10 July, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reportedly won over 600 seats out of 825.
BSP chief Mayawati has accused BJP of misusing government machinery for the block pramukh elections, which have been marked by violence in several districts. She said such violence and anarchy reminds one of the Samajwadi Party rule, where the then party in power adopted similar antics to stay in power.
