Bhubaneswar, November 22, 2025: At a time when the fundamental rights of ordinary citizens continue to face increasing threats, speakers at the fifth State Conference of the Ganatantrik Adhikar Surakhya Sangathan, Odisha, one of the oldest democratic rights organisations in the country, expressed deep concern over the widening gap between the powerful and the marginalised. Despite advancements in development, many communities still lack access to clean drinking water, while thousands face forced evictions and displacement. “People are becoming poorer while a handful grow richer and influence the administration,” speakers noted during the day-long conference.

The conference was presided over by Dr Golak Bihari Nath, who highlighted the crucial role of human rights organisations in strengthening the country’s social and economic fabric.

The keynote address was delivered by noted poet Ashutosh Parida, who presented an article titled “Voice of Resistance Literature in the Age of Dominance.” He emphasised the significance, evolution, and necessity of protest literature as a powerful platform for democratic expression.

Two important publications were launched during the event.

1.    ‘Arthanitira Shoshan Ebam Janajagruti’ — a compilation of 37 Odia articles originally published in the magazine Ganavithi — was formally released and reviewed by Prof. Dhaneshwar Sahu.

2.    The second book, ‘Rights of the Oppressed’, was reviewed by Prof. Minoranjam Mohanty.

The latest issue of Sangramee Chetanara Ganavithi magazine and the organisation’s manifesto were also unveiled.

Deba Ranjan, General Secretary of GASS, presented the organisational report. Delegates from various districts, along with several intellectuals and activists from the city, participated and shared their insights. The conference also elected new office-bearers to strengthen the organisation's future activities.

The event proceedings were conducted by Brajendra Mohanty, Gyan Ranjan, Srimanta Mohanty, and Nihar Dash.
