Christians are a tiny 2.3% of India's population, i.e. 28 million out of about 1430 million Indians
They are a peaceful community, who though small in number, have made an enormous contribution to our country, particularly in the fields of education, healthcare, empowerment of women, dalits, tribals, and other poor and marginalised sections of society.

Unfortunately, recently there were attacks in many parts of India on the celebration of Christmas, the most important festival of Christians, on 25th December, the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ.
India is a country of great diversity, with many religions and communities. The only policy which can keep us together and take us on the path of progress is the policy of suleh-e-kul or giving equal respect to all religions, which was the policy propounded by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Hence the attack on the celebration of Christmas in many parts of India was a disgrace to us, and tarnishes our image abroad. It was very unfortunate, and must be condemned by all right-thinking Indians. We should together celebrate festivals of all religions, which used to be done by Indians before the Mutiny of 1857, after which the Britishers sowed the seed of communal hatred among us, in pursuance of their nefarious policy of divide and rule.

Now the time has come when we must all unite, imbibing the spirit of this song
