An analysis of Justice Markandey Katju’s critique of Mohammad Marandi, examining misconceptions about Israel’s influence over United States policy and the geopolitical roots of the Iran conflict.

Prof Marandi's mistake

By Justice Markandey Katju

I just now saw the interview of Prof Mohammad Marandi, Professor of English Literature and Oriental Studies in Tehran University, who was a member of the Iranian delegation which went to Islamabad for talks with the US delegation.

I have great respect for Prof Marandi, and have praised him for his bravery and uprightness in my article

Nevertheless, in my opinion he has a basic misconception, which is reflected in his interview.

This basic misconception, which is also that of former US Director of National Counterterrorism Joe Kent, is that it was Israel which made the US go to war with Iran. This seems to suggest is that it is Israel which determines US government policies, while the US government is only Israel's servant, loyally carrying out the orders of its master.

In my opinion this is a total misconception by Prof Marandi and Joe Kent about Israel, and puts the cart before the horse. Far from being the ruler of the USA, Israel is only its creation, lackey, and loyal retainer.

To understand this, we must first understand 'what is Israel' and why it was created. This has been explained in my articles  :

Israel was created by the Western powers because in the first half of the 20th century, a huge amount of oil was discovered in the middle east, which was needed by the growing Western industries. To ensure the safe supply of this oil from the middle east to the West, Israel was created as a Western ( particularly US ) military outpost or garrison in the middle east. The notion that it was created since the Jews, who had been persecuted by the Nazis in Europe, needed their own homeland, is a fictional and deliberately fabricated myth ( as mentioned in my articles above ).

Israel is almost totally dependent on the US for its weapons, other critical materials, and financial aid

Hence, Israel cannot survive even for a few months without US aid. Consequently, Israel cannot take any major decision without US permission. How then can it be said that the Israelis can make the Americans start a war? The notion is ridiculous.

The real reason why the Americans, and their loyal lackey and retainer Israel, launched an attack on Iran, and why the war will continue, are given in my articles:

Though I admire Prof Marandi ( and Joe Kent ) for his courageous stance, I regret to say he ( and Joe Kent ) have a superficial understanding of realities.
