New Delhi, 16 March 2021. On March 11, 2021, a 14-year-old boy, after getting thirsty, entered the premises of the Dasna Devi temple Ghaziabad to drink water from the tap there. When he went inside and was drinking water, a man asked him his name and his father’s name, and then started beating up the boy left and right. He twisted his arm, kicked him several times in the guts, and threw him on the ground. Another person recorded the incident on the phone and the video was uploaded on a now-deleted Instagram page.

Against the incident, the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations filed a complaint in the National Human Rights Commission.

Though the person who beat up the boy has been arrested, the one who recorded the video and participated actively in the incident, as well as other potential perpetrators, have not been arrested.

This is not the first incident in the said temple of its kind. There have been videos of previous violent anti-muslim cases that were uploaded on the same Instagram page.

The complaint was filed on March 15 by the general secretary of the Delhi committee of NCHRO, Azeem Naved. This is a case of communal hatred and violence. NCHRO urged the NHRC to look into the matter and take action.

This information was given in a press release.
