South Africa has been having violence recently.
The country’s population is about 60 million, of which about 41 million are blacks ( about 77% ) 4.6 million whites ( about 9% ), and about 1.3 million Indians ( 2.5% ).
The Indians’ forefathers came many generations back from India and have been living peacefully in South Africa for generations. They are relatively much better off than the blacks economically, having businesses, shops etc and many are professionals like doctors, lawyers etc ( I myself was treated by an Indian doctor, when I went to Cape Town many years back, and he invited me to his home where I met his family ).
Now Indians in Durban, Johannesburg, Phoenix and many other towns have been attacked, by blacks, and their shops, homes and properties looted on a large scale. This violence is obviously due to the widespread unemployment among the blacks, many of whom have taken to crime.
Propaganda of political parties like Julius Malema’s Economic Freedom Fighters ( EFF ), who have been advocating occupation of land without compensation, may have fuelled the fire.
It seems the police did not intervene. Dark days are ahead for South Africa.
