The President Smt. Draupadi Murmu attended the 165th Convocation of the University of Madras today. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the University of Madras, established in the year 1857, has the distinction of being one of the oldest modern universities in India. This university has played an important role in the dissemination of knowledge. Throughout its journey of over 165 years, the University of Madras has adhered to high standards of teaching, providing an environment that nurtures intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. It has been a cradle of the creation of innumerable scholars, leaders and visionaries, it has also served as a beacon, playing a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of many prestigious universities in the southern region of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations in 27 states through video conference under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. About 25 thousand crore rupees will be spent on the redevelopment of these stations.
