Former Supreme Court judge says police will implicate innocents to save themselves, questions systemic prejudice
New Delhi, 11 November 2025. Former Supreme Court judge Justice Markandey Katju has strongly criticised the Indian police over their handling of the recent Delhi bomb blasts that claimed several lives. Katju alleged that the police are too incompetent to find the real culprits and, to avoid suspension for failure, will likely arrest and charge innocent people — particularly Muslims — to show results.
He said in a statement, “The incompetent Indian police will never be able to trace out the real culprits behind the recent Delhi bomb blasts, which killed many people.
But if someone is not implicated, the policemen will be suspended for incompetence. So to save their own skins, they must implicate arrest, and chargesheet some people.
And who better to implicate than some Muslims? After all, are Muslims not all terrorists ?”
His sharp remarks have once again stirred debate over bias and accountability in India’s law enforcement system.
