  • Proposal for a joint public debate.

No response yet: Justice Katju's second request.

Controversy over Delhi High Court order: Justice Katju seeks public debate with Yogita Bhayana

New Delhi, 29th December 2025.  Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the Delhi High Court's interim order granting bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar, former Supreme Court judge Justice Markandey Katju has written an open letter to social activist Yogita Bhayna.

In the letter, Justice Katju objected to her statements, calling him "uncivilized" and a "protector of criminals" without refuting his legal arguments, which raises questions about the level of public discourse.

Justice Katju has once again invited Yogita Bhayna to an open public debate, so that the merits and demerits of the Delhi High Court's order can be discussed logically.

Justice Markandey Katju writes to Yogita Bhayana-

"Yogitaji
I have given my reasons in articles and interviews that the Delhi High Court order in Sengar's case is correct

Yesterday I saw on YouTube that you criticised my statements

You have not said how my reasoning is incorrect. All you said in your rant was that you are laughing at my views :

You said :

मैंने उनका वह कमेंट पढ़ा है और मुझे हँसी आ रही है कि यह हमारे देश के सर्वोच्च न्यायलय में रहे हैं, उन्होंने बस ऐसे ही बोल दिया

You also said :

You have thus called me uncivilised ( asabhya ), and a protector of criminals. Are you not ashamed for using such abusive language, calling an 80-year-old man, perhaps as old as your grandfather, uncivilised, and a protector of criminals ?

I had earlier sent you this email, asking you to join me on a debate on the issue

''Dear Yogitaji,

I have heard your views on the Sengar case on YouTube

With respect, I am of the opinion that the order of the Delhi High Court is correct, and your view is wrong. Please see this link and video in which I have expressed my view.

If you agree, we can have an online debate on any channel you wish whenever you like on this issue

As yet you have not replied. I again request you to have a joint debate with me on the correctness of the Delhi High Court order in Sengar's case, in whichever TV channel or social media you choose, and whenever you choose
