Health Ministry announces 27% for OBCs, 10% for EWS in All India Quota for UG, PG medical, dental courses

In a major move made by the government of India regarding the quota system, the Centre has announced 27% reservation for OBCs and 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in medical education. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official Twitter handle and posted- ‘Our Government has taken a landmark decision for providing 27% reservation for OBCs and 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Section in the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental courses from the current academic year.’

The Bill aims at regulation and promotion of private players in the space sector.

The government committed to creating an ecosystem to encourage more private participation in the indigenous production of space technologies, services and devices.

Project Pegasus: Israel government raids NSO offices

Israeli government authorities have raided the offices of NSO Group following revelations by a consortium of media organisations that the surveillance software vendor’s Pegasus spyware was used by multiple governments around the world to snoop on public figures and opposition leaders among others. Geo-imaging satellite “EOS-03” is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of 2021

The geo-imaging satellite will help in near-real-time monitoring of natural disasters like floods & cyclones.

“EOS-03” would also enable monitoring of water bodies, crops, vegetation condition, forest cover changes etc.

Income Tax Department conducts searches in Jharkhand

Income Tax Department carried out a search operation on 28.07.2021 on a prominent group in Jharkhand dealing in building construction and real estate. The search began on 28.07.2021 in Ranchi and Kolkata. More than 20 premises were covered.

During the search, it was found that the group was not maintaining regular books of account. In view thereof, the audit certificates and statements submitted to the Income Tax Department are under investigation for genuineness.

Inland Vessels Bill 2021 passed in Lok Sabha

The Inland Vessels Bill 2021 was passed in Lok Sabha today. It was introduced in the House by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri SarbanandaSonowal last Thursday.

The Bill seeks to incorporate unified law for the country, instead of separate rules framed by the States. The registration certificate under the new law will be considered valid all over the country, and separate permissions from States shall not be required.

Kerala to enter weekend lockdown due to rise of COVID-19 cases

The state government announced on Wednesday that Kerala will enter a lockdown on July 31 and August 1 due to a rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Kerala accounts for around 50% of new COVID-19 cases countrywide, according to NDTV.
